What is Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication (a type of multi-factor authentication) is a method of providing more secure access to web sites and applications than can be achieved with a standard single-password system. Rather than requiring a single password, two-factor authentication allows you to provide a secret code that is unique each time you log in. This code can be provided either via an SMS text to a phone, or via an authentication app for your smartphone.
Why use Two-Factor Authentication?
Two-factor authentication helps keep you and your data safe and secure. With two-factor authentication enabled, a hacker who managed to steal your username and password would be stopped at the front door without a way to get past the second authentication. With over 65% of people using the same password for everything, having a secondary password available exclusively to you could be the difference between a great day at work and a very, very bad one.
What do I need to use Two-Factor Authentication?
A phone that can receive SMS messages and/or a iOS/Windows/Android smartphone are all you need to get two-factor authentication enabled for your account today.
What if I choose not to use Two-Factor Authentication?
You will remain outside of any accounts that are now requiring two-factor authentication, though you will immediately regain access in the future if you do enable two-factor authentication for your account.
