Culling - Culling a document will hide it from view and prevent it from being returned in searches. The Unculled and Culled views are mutually exclusive, a document can only be in one or the other, not both. Culling a document doesn't delete it, your document is simply sequestered in a "Culled" collection that you can access again if need be.
CSV Download - For Project Admins & Account Admins, this a tool in Logikcull that can be leveraged to create Search Reports / Privilege Logs(accessible in the Search tab, to the right above the main search bar). For Account Admins, the ability to create User Reports and Usage Reports can be utilized in the Account Settings > Usage Tab.
Custodian - The Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) defines a custodian as a “[p]erson having administrative control of a document or electronic file; for example, the data custodian of an email is the owner of the mailbox which contains the message.”
De-Dupe - De-dupe or de-duplication is the removal or suppression of copies of identical documents in a project. There are three accessible options to the top right above your search carousel: Global (across all custodians), Custodian (within data of a single custodian), and No De-dupe (all duplicates visible).
Downloads/Productions - A download is the way to export collections of documents out of Logikcull and they are sometimes referred to as productions. You will need a saved search to initiate a download. A saved search can have as many (or as little) work products and parameters applied as you’d like. You can securely share a download on step 4 via email, or once the download is complete you can save a zip to your computer or securely share via email as well.
Endorsement - Endorsements are recurring and can be placed on the top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right (or all four!). Some options include page numbers, bates numbers, file names, custom (ie. print the word “confidential”).
- Standalone: Documents that have no embedded files or attachments. e.g. A .JPG image
- Child: Documents that are part of a family and not the parent document. e.g. An attachment or embedded file.
- Parent: Documents that have attachments or embedded files and are not a child document themselves. e.g. An email with an attachment.
GB/TB - Gigabyte/Terabyte. Gigabyte 1,000,000,000 (one billion) bytes. A common measurement of data storage. Logikcull bills on the GB for data storage. A terabyte is 1000 GBs.
Metadata - Data about data. For a given document, the metadata might describe its characteristics, origins, usage, and/or validity. While not typically visible while using a printed version or on a screen, this information provides key context for how the document came to be, where it’s been, and what it’s all about.
Native Files - Files before Logikcull work product is applied. The originals, so to speak.
OCR - Optical Character Recognition - a process where documents without text (such as a picture of a receipt or a pdf without a text layer) will be scanned to recognize and index text.
Overlay - A way to ‘rewrite’ parts of a database upload (does not work for drag & drop uploads). If, for example, a date is formatted incorrectly, or a name of a file needs to be changed, one can edit the data file (CSV) and upload it, overlaying the previous data file.
Project - Where the work on a case resides. In Logikcull, a project can be seen as a matter. One project can have many uploads/saved searches/downloads.
QC Tags - Quality Control Tags. These automatically get applied by Logikcull in the upload stage. QC Tags are an effort to alert you to things in your data that might’ve traditionally gone unnoticed and that may be important to your project.
Saved Search - A way to save either search parameters (saved search) or parameters & results (locked search). Example parameters could be email domain, document date, file type, removal of duplicates, etc. A saved search is required for a download.
Filter Carousel - Logikcull’s user friendly rotating search options.
Bulk Search - A way to utilize search when you have many parameters to input.
Power Search - Useful for building complicated search queries. After selecting your data type/conditions/booleans, the search syntax will populate in the main search bar.
Uploads - How your data gets into Logikcull. Currently there are 3 routes for this. 1) You can do a drag and drop of a single zip file (if you have multiple files to upload just put them in one folder and zip that one folder). 2) You can utilize a database upload. Database uploads require at least a metadata load file and an images file. 3) Finally, the last option is a cloud upload. we currently support Box and Slack imports through a cloud upload.
User Permission Levels - Differing levels of privilege across an account.
